Nice work on Bard Songs Val! That must have taken a bit of effort to get all of them!

Anyone else got some topics they wish to help out with? I'll be doing some maintenance on the weekend, adding topics etc.

So, I've heard qite a bit about this "Tikel Method," also referred to the "33 Method," however, I can't find any actual "documentation" on this subject. The Nuki page mentions it, but there are no details posted yet. I tried a search on this site, but other than threads that reference the method, I have yet to find the actual "method." I know it has to do with advancing your M skills and how to guess the number, but I don't know the specifics. (I have my own method for this that only makes sense to me. I pass the mystical test about 90% and usually have the number by guess 5, so I am unlikely to change it).

I am just wondering exactly what the Tikel Method is (though I suspect it's pretty similar to the method I use...) :shhh:

I assume you mean the switching method, which tikel admits he didn't come up with. I believe both Hotshot and Einherjar have been using it for a long time also. It involves changing from a thief to a mage or a mage to a thief based on the level you are on and your advancement in the game.

I don't think that anyone besides me uses "33 method" for guessing the right number, can you prove me wrong :)


I found the info on the Switching Method... I was asking for clarification on the Tikel Method, which has something to do with the 33 Method and advancing in Mystical.... unless I got confused along the way they are two different things, aren't they Val? :?

Instead of guessing 50 one starts with "33" as your first guess, with a 100% chance of getting numbers below 33, at the expense of missing numbers above 33 at more than the normal 33% chance.

I think the math works out to be the same, but I don't feel like working out my conditional probability muscles right now :P

OK, I get it now. So you'd start withh 33 and pray the number is less than 33 so you can guess the number with 100% accuracy (unless you're impaired in some way), but if the number's over 33 you're more, or less, screwed. :mrgreen:

Yes, yes I can see how this method could have nearly the same odds as the 50/50 method, no need for specific formulas or anything... it's too early to make my brain hurt that much! :rasp:

First part is correct, you will guess the right number if it's lower then 34, also you will have about 99% to guess right number if it is higher then 68. Also you will have 1/33 chance to guess the number between 33 and 68.
50 method and 33 method don't differ much in terms of probability getting the number right. Hotshot once did the math and come up with numbers where you have 1% less chance with 33 method then 50 method IIRC.

Here, this is how 33 works:

1. 33
2. if lower (then 33) 17
3. if lower (then 17) 8 3. if higher (then 17) 25
4. -+4 4. -+ 4
5. -+2 5. -+ 2
6. only one possible answer 6. only one possible answer

2. if higher (then 33) 83
3. -+8
4. -+4
5. -+2
6. if the number on step 5 is 98 then you have 1/4 chance to get the right answer and for any other number between 69-95 you will get the right number.

It's a mess I know, but I didn't know how to present it better :)

Every reasonable search pattern, which includes 50/50 and "33," has a 63% likelihood of success (assuming all numbers are equally common).

Here is why: You choose one number for your first number. This leaves two regions (high and low) so there are two possible numbers that will be grabbed by your second guess. Likewise, there are 4 for your third guess, 8 for your fourth, 16 for your fifth, and 32 for you sixth. 1+2+4+8+16+32=63.

As long as each region has at least 31 spots after your first guess, at least 15 after your second, 7 after your third, 3 after your fourth and 1 after your fifth (don't choose a number consecutive to one you've guessed) then you'll cover 63 of the possible 100 spots with your guess pattern. This means that your first choice can be anywhere from 32-69 and it will be equally good. It is not possible to cover more than 63 of the 100 spots.

There is an error on the wiki: Cyclops Warrior is listed as a level 11 monster, but is a level 12 monster.

Technically he's a level 11 monster. It's only Seth's sloppy code that causes him to appear on 12.

But yes. You won't see him on 11, so...
