How to play Legend Of the Red Dragon
LORD is similar to Dungeons and Dragons, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, etc. LORD is unique in that it is multiplayer, and is meant to be played once or possibly twice in a day.
Each day at midnight, every player is given a certain amount of forest fights and player fights. Players collect gold and experience by fighting monsters in the forest, and other human players. The gold can be used to purchase new weapons/armor, to make your player more powerful.
As experience accumulates, you will be allowed to fight your level's Master in order to advance to the next level. Players continue to gain levels until they reach Level 12, where they are able to fight the Red Dragon. To search for the dragon, players must press "S" in the forest.
The highest honor in the game is given to the one who kills the dragon. If you kill the dragon, your character is reset to the beginning, but you keep your class skills (see below), charm and lays. You will be in high spirits and given 10 gems. After five dragon kills, you become the supreme hero, and the game - along with all players - start from the beginning.
Class skills are special abilities you have depending on the class that you chose when you created your character. There are the Death Knights, the Mystical Wizards, and the Thieves - each with different special skills. These skills can be accessed during a fight (hit D for deathknight, M for mystical, T for thief). The Death Knights get very powerful attack skills. Mystical class warriors get various different abilities such as a healing spell, a run-away spell, attacks, and others. Thieves get moderately powerful attack skills, but gain them quicker than the Death Knights do.
Intermediate Tactics for Winning at Legend Of the Red Dragon
This section of the tutorial is a collection of tips and tricks used by the best Nuklear LORD players. If you've always wondered how a certain player is able to advance so quickly, or how they became so powerful - take heed, warrior. Read this section carefully.
- Class skills: As stated above, these are very powerful but limited powers that you accumulate throughout the game. Knowledge of how to use these is crucial to advancing quickly. If you've never used a class skill before, see up above. You can gain class skills in two ways: Defeating your level's master, and Random occurances in the forest. There are some tricks to getting the skill point you want from each Random occurance. The Death Knights are presented with what looks like a 50/50 choice of decapitating a prisoner or not. The best way to win is to always pick the same value. The Mystical warriors are presented with a guessing game, where you have 6 tries to guess a number from 1 to 100. There's a rumor that you will guess the correct number more often if you choose the lesser of two halves (12 rather than 13 when your last guess was 25 for example). The Thieves get the easiest Random occurance of all - if you are a thief, you only have to give up a gem. So carry at least one gem at all times. Due to how frequent the Random occurances occur for the Thieves, as well as some other tricks listed below, it is very beneficial to start the game as a Thief.
- Advancing Levels: Advancing to the next level involves attacking your level's Master. You are only able to do so after gaining a certain amount of experience points. Of course, the day you obtain enough experience points may not be the right day to attack your master. Many players don't attack their master when they should. Others attack the master as soon as they possibly can. The best time to start a fight with your level master is when you're able to fight all of that level's forest monsters without much trouble. If any one forest monster is able to hurt you for more than 1/2 to 2/3 of your total Hit Points, you're not ready to move on. In that case, stay at your current level and collect gold for stronger armor and weapons. There are few exceptions to this rule - the very low and the very high levels. Level 1 and 2 should be completed as soon as you're able to kill the master. As level 12 is the last level, you would normally think of it as the most difficult. This is not the case - the level 11 monsters are FAR more powerful than those in level 12. It is best to spend as little amount of time on level 11 as possible.
- Weapons/Armor: In general, it is better to have stronger armor than it is to have a stronger weapon. Players in LORD are weak as far as defense is concerned. When you have the money, buy the expensive armor first. Your attack and defense points can also be raised by trading in Gems with the innkeeper.
- Collecting Gold: There are several ways to get money in LORD. The most obvious, is to fight the forest monsters. Not very well known however, is that a Thief-class player with a Fairy can steal from the bank. If you are a thief, and have a fairy, enter the bank in the town. Press some numeric keys - 1, 2, 3, etc. This will use up your fairy, but on the lower levels it's more than worth it. Another way to enhance your gold supply is by hearing Seth Able sing. Most of the time, hearing Seth sing earns you a forest fight or two. However, if you play two or three forest fights when you first log on and THEN hear Seth sing, your chances of hin doubling the gold in the bank go up quite a bit.
- Gaining Experience Fast: This is the key to the whole game - getting the experience needed to go up a level when you need to. Forest fights will gain you experience at a steady pace, but the real trick is to slaughter other players. Not just other players on your level... but players a level above you. It's a fact that the game ALLOWS you to use class skills when slaughtering a player who's a level above you. You can gain experience very quickly as a Death Knight, by attacking someone just above you with powerful Death Knight skills. At low levels, flirting with Violet/Seth Able (depending on your gender) will gain you significant amounts of experience. Be sure to do that.
- JENNIE: Yes, Jennie. Jennie Garth, to be exact. I'm not going to reveal the details of this, other than to inform you that Jennie can provide extra gold, an extra forest fight, an extra player fight, or even extra Hit Points. Do a little research. Those extra hit points will be very useful when attacking dragons and/or higher level players. Jennie is only available on days when you are in "High Spirits". This is totally random, and is determined when you join the game each day. However, if you meet up with Olivia in the forest, her Head can put you in good spirits (ifyouknowwhatImean).
- Killing the Dragon: The Red Dragon - the evil being that you have set out to destroy. Some players have different tactics for slaying the beast, but there is an ideal scenario. Having a fairy on hand will essentially provide you with two lives. There's a good chance that you'll need it. Also for defense, is the Mystical skill, Light Shield. Combine those with extra HP from Jennie, and your defense is complete. As far as attacks are concerned, start off with Thievery or Death Knight skill attacks. You won't have many class skills the first time you fight the Red Dragon. Each kill after the first is progressively easier. Also to note- being killed by the Red Dragon DOES NOT cause you to lose any experience! If you are a level 12 player, it is in your best interest to fight the dragon every day as you lose absolutely nothing by being killed by the dragon. And since other players can't slaughter you if you're dead, being killed by the dragon gives them less of a chance to get your experience and move up to your level.
These tips are the key to being competitive at Logend Of the Red Dragon. Make sure you keep them in mind. If you are unable to use them, you will not be able to truly succeed.
Advanced Tips for Legend Of the Red Dragon
This is a collection of tips for when you've mastered the basics and are comfortable with the important ideas listed previously. Knowing and mastering these will help you rank high in the realms of Nuklear LORD.
- Observe: Watch the best players in the game to see when they go up a level and wwhat equipment they have. See which players they are able to kill. This will help you learn which risks to take.
- Spend Your Gems: Gems can be given to the bartender to increase your stats. Hitpoints, while beneficial at low levels, may not be the best choice. Also, if you find the Dark Cloak Tavern in the forest, you can spend gems to gain valuable information about your opponents.
- Catch Fairies: If you are a thief, catching a fairy in the forest lets you steal from the bank. This gives a very hefty sum of cash most of the time. Fairies also have another important use: if you die, they will revive you with full hitpoints. Great for attacking players and the Red Dragon.
- Online Duels: Use these to kill off your closest competitors, or ask someone to duel with you for the chance to get more exp. Please note that fairies will not revive you in an online duel.
- Get a Horse: If you decide to ask the fairies for a blessing, there is a chance you will get a horse. A horse will immediately give you 20% more forest fights, as well as giving you 20% more forest fights each day. Sometimes an enemy will kill your horse. When this happens, you will automatically kill the enemy, even if it would have killed you!
- Shatter: The Mystical skill "Shatter" is the most powerful attack in the game. Use it when you need need to do a lot of damage in one swift blow.
- Free Spells: The Mystical Skills "Mind Heal" and "Light Shield" do not use up your action in a fight. You can cast one and then attack or use another skill.
- Level 11: Level 11 is filled with nasty tough monsters that do their best to make sure you never win. They often succeed.
- Instant Banking: Pressing 'B' in the forest will cause an ugly vulture to take all your gold to the bank. Use this often so that you don't have to walk back to town constantly.
- JENNIE Codes: On low levels, use your codes to get extra gold. On high levels, use it for an extra forest fight. If you need to kill someone tough, grab some extra hitpoints from it. You can also use it to get an extra player fight if there are a lot of people to kill.
- So you've killed the dragon... Right after you kill the dragon, use a JENNIE code to get gold. This will let you immediately improve equipment. Also note that you get to send an extra romantic mail after killing the best.
